Derek Trubia

Accessibility and ADA Coordination Program Manager, DSHS

Derek Trubia has been with DSHS after joining the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation in 2016 as the Training Manager where he oversaw all aspects of training including various procurements. After five years there he then spent 2.5 years in ALTSA as a program manager within the HCS division and wrote multiple IT sole-source contracts as well as master service agreements. Beginning in February 2024 Derek began work within the DSHS Office of Equity, Diversity, Access, and Inclusion with a special matrixed position to HRD. He regularly works DSHS Technology Improvement Administration for various aspects of software procurement.

Prior to beginning work for the state, he was an active-duty combat medic in the US Army. He served on multiple overseas combat and operational deployments. He was medically retired after 12 years. He then attended graduate school where he completed four master’s degrees as well as completing multiple global certifications and digital accessibility and testing procedures. These degrees are in Master of Business, Master of Public Administration, Master of Human Resources, and Master of Organizational Leadership.

In his personal life he enjoys boating, camping, hiking, fishing, crabbing, and attending soccer games with his two sons, age 13 and 19, as well as his eight-year-old labradoodle. His wife works for a local school district.
